St. Mary’s General Hospital Chooses New President
Kitchener, ON (June 14, 2010) – Dr. Kevin Smith, President and CEO of St. Joseph’s Health System, and Mr. Rob Way, Chair, of the Board of Trustees, announced today that Mr. Don Shilton has been appointed as the new President of St. Mary’s General Hospital Kitchener, effective August 16, 2010. Mr. Shilton is currently the Vice President of Patient Services at St. Mary’s.
“As part of the St. Mary’s executive team Don has contributed significantly to St. Mary’s being recognized as a leading cardiac centre in Ontario and surpassing Ministry of Health and Long Term Care targets for reducing wait times in the Emergency Department,” said Mr. Way.
Mr. Shilton will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Hospital and for building and enhancing St. Mary’s relationships with the community, local healthcare partners, donors, and academic institutions. Dr. Kevin Smith will remain as CEO and provide strategic direction to the Hospital.
“Don has a proven track record of leadership,” added Dr. Smith. “He is capable of taking on the challenging and complex issues we face to provide the most innovative, compassionate patient care possible.”
Mr. Shilton has had a number of progressively senior management positions at hospitals in Hamilton and Kitchener-Waterloo. He has a clinical background in respiratory technology, a Masters Degree in Business Administration and is a Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Services Executives.
Mr. Shilton will replace Mrs. Moira Taylor who will be retiring after a distinguished career of leadership at St. Mary’s.
