COVID-19 Outbreak Declared Over on 3 East
In consultation with Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s is today declaring an end to a COVID-19 outbreak on 3 East. Ten patients and three staff members were associated with this outbreak. We are thinking of them as they recover.
As of today:
- The unit will fully reopen to new admissions and transfers.
- Diligence with universal masking and face shields continues.
- Asymptomatic testing is continuing in other units as needed.
- The importance of physical distancing in break rooms is being reinforced.
Enhanced cleaning will continue throughout the unit.
Outbreaks are extremely challenging for everyone and we are grateful to our teams who are working tirelessly to prevent transmission of COVID-19.

In consultation with Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s has partially re-opened 3 East to new admissions today.
Here is the latest information:
- There are nine patients and two staff member associated with the outbreak and they are in our thoughts as they recover.
- One end of 3 East will reopen today to new admissions.
- Staff will be cohorted on each end of the unit.
- Diligence with universal masking and face shields continues.
- Enhanced cleaning continues.

In consultation with Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 on its 3 East Unit. Two patients are currently associated with this outbreak. Our thoughts are with patients and staff on the unit.
The following precautionary measures are in place:
- The unit is currently closed to admissions
- Testing is underway for staff and patients
- Droplet contact precautions continue.
- Enhanced cleaning continues
- Care Partner visits are temporarily suspended, except in exceptional circumstances, such as when a patient is at end of life or if the care team determines there could be a marked improvement in a patient’s condition with a visit. Efforts have been enhanced to connect patients by phone or virtually with Care Partners.
