COVID-19 outbreak declared on fifth floor
January 15, 2022
In consultation with the Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s is declaring a COVID-19 outbreak on its fifth floor. So far, 1 staff and 5 patients are associated with this outbreak. This declaration follows an investigation which revealed the start of the outbreak as January 10, 2022 and is anticipated to continue until January 20th. Our thoughts are with the staff and patients, and we wish them well in their recovery.
Immediate measures initiated include the following:
- Patients who have tested positive or are considered COVID-resolved on 500 will be cohorted in multibed rooms. Patients who are COVID-negative will be moved, where possible, to private or semi-private rooms.
- Rapid antigen testing will continue for all 500 staff prior to shifts.
- Point prevalence will be repeated on January 17th.
- Droplet contact precautions are in effect throughout the unit and N95 masks or half-face respirators and face shields to be worn by all staff on the unit.
- Staff will remain dedicated to the unit.
- Enhanced cleaning continues.
- Care Partner visits are suspended, except in exceptional circumstances. Efforts will be enhanced to connect patients by phone or virtually with Care Partners
More updates will be provided as they become available.
