COVID-19 outbreak on St. Mary's fifth and seventh floors declared over
February 6, 2022
In consultation with Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s is pleased today to declare an end to COVID-19 outbreaks on our fifth and seventh floors. This is positive news, and we appreciate how difficult this has been for our staff and patients. We remind everyone that although the outbreaks are now over, Omicron by no way is and we must remain extremely vigilant as this continues to be a highly transmissible variant.
Eight staff and 12 patients were associated with the outbreak on our fifth floor and 18 patients and eight staff were associated with the outbreak on our seventh floor. We continue to think of them as they recover.
As of today:
- Diligence with universal masking and face shields continues.
- Droplet contact precautions in addition to N95 or half-mask respirator required for any patients suspect or COVID positive, and for all aerosol-generating medical procedures, regardless of infection status.
- Staff can float to other units.
- Care Partner visits can resume.
- The importance of physical distancing in break rooms is reinforced.
- Enhanced cleaning will continue throughout the unit.
